Networking and collaborations
By collaborating with universities and non-university research institutes in Germany and other countries, the Academy forms links between specialist competences across institutional boundaries, facilitates the pooling of scientific expertise and thus strengthens Bavaria’s position as a science hub. The individual research projects also seek out networking partners, often at international level. The BAdW views greater involvement in networks as a way to shine an even greater international spotlight on Bavaria as a research location.
Networks
The Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities is involved in several partnerships with a view to strengthening networking and collaboration between scientific institutes. The aim is to draw more attention to science and science communication and to raise science’s profile across Munich, Bavaria, and beyond. Its membership of these networks underlines the Academy’s aspirations to excellence and supports interdisciplinary collaboration.
AHA – The Science Communication Hub
In an age of fake news and scepticism towards research findings, it is more important than ever to offer competent, easily understood and accessible science communication. With this in mind, leading scientific and educational institutes in Munich received support from the Bavarian State Ministry for Science and Art to set up "AHA – The Science Communication Hub". This platform facilitates dialogue between the scientific community and society and helps to shine a bigger spotlight on Bavaria as a major research location. The AHA network includes Munich-based universities, research organisations, academies and museums, with the BAdW hosting its central office.
Akademienunion
The Academies’ Programme serves to give access to, preserve and explore the world’s cultural heritage. It is Germany’s largest cultural sciences and humanities research programme and it is coordinated by the Akademienunion (Union of the German Academies of Sciences and Humanities). Eight academies, including the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities, are conducting over 130 long-term projects ranging from dictionaries to editions, all with support from the German government and the federal states.
Munich Quantum Valley (MQV)
Munich Quantum Valley (MQV) aims to create a world-leading ecosystem for quantum technologies. With support from the Bavarian state government, MQV fosters a network encompassing research, industry and society in order to develop quantum computers, promote knowledge transfer and enable technology breakthroughs – all with the aim of ensuring that Bavaria and Germany stay ahead in the quantum age.
Wertebündnis Bayern
Wertebündnis Bayern is an alliance of over 200 partners from civil society and the education and culture sectors. Its aim is to teach young people about values like democracy, solidarity and responsibility. The partners have established several projects based around opportunities for active involvement and reflection on personal values. Germany’s Basic Law and the Bavarian constitution form the basis for the collaboration.
