Library

The library of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities is a reference library. Its collections include:

  • Publications by the Academy, its institutes and research projects
  • Publications by other academies in German-speaking regions
  • General works of reference on diverse fields of knowledge
  • Specialised libraries for research projects

There is no interlibrary loan system; external users must make an appointment before visiting the library. The collections of the research projects may only be viewed by arrangement with the project owners. The library team can provide further information on the collection and how to access its materials.

Through national and international exchange programmes, the Academy receives around 2,500 books every year from 600 or so exchange partners in 53 countries. Many of these works are passed on to the Bavarian State Library where users can access them.
