As the central platform for interdisciplinary collaboration in the sciences in Bavaria, we bring together outstanding minds from all disciplines. Together, we analyze the opportunities and challenges of our time, make complex developments understandable, and provide society with scientifically grounded insights. Our research stems from an understanding of the past and thrives on the interdisciplinary interaction of the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, life sciences, and engineering. We promote dialogue between academia, politics, business, and the public—driven by a passion for research and the determination to shape the future through science.
Research, infrastructure and networking
Our projects and institutes drive forward basic research in the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences and engineering. Modern science also needs modern tools: we create high-performance digital infrastructures for research in Germany. Our agencies create spaces to connect science and research in Bavaria.
Funding
We are committed to the future: through the Young College, we support outstanding postdocs across all disciplines in Bavaria and create a platform for interdisciplinary networking and innovation. Through partnerships such as the Munich Post Doc Network, targeted support for PhD students and postdocs in projects and at institutes, and international scholarships in cooperation with academic partners, we strengthen individual career paths – and thus shape the research of tomorrow.
Dialogue
Science affects us all: that is why we build bridges for dialogue with the worlds of politics, business and the public, focusing on excellence, interdisciplinarity and commitment. Through a wide range of initiatives, we make scientific findings accessible to everyone and invite people to engage with researchers on issues that affect us all, because: science shapes the future.
