Union of Academies
The Union of the German Academies of Sciences and Humanities is an umbrella organisation that brings together eight German science and humanities academies. Over 1,900 researchers from a wide range of disciplines work at the Union's member academies. Each of these academics is regarded as an excellent representative of their respective field in both national and international circles. Together, they are committed to promoting academic dialogue, excellence in research, and supporting young researchers in the sciences and humanities.
The Union coordinates the Academies’ Programme, which is currently the largest research programme in the field of humanities in Germany. In addition, the Union fosters communication between academies and engages in press and public relations activities. It also organises events on current issues in science and research and hosts the Academies' Open Day once a year. Furthermore, the Union represents the German science and humanities academies abroad and sends delegates to national and international science organisations.
The member academies are represented in the standing committee of the Leopoldina National Academy of Sciences and are involved in science-based advisory functions for policy-makers and civil society.
