The digital strategy of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities

1. Online presence

The Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities presents itself and each of its research projects on its websites. All websites are available in German and English.

2. Digital availability and open access

The Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities strives to ensure that its research findings can be reused by as broad an audience as possible. In line with its open-access policy, it publishes information about the academy and its research projects on its free institutional repository under the CC BY creative commons license, which is recommended by the German Research Foundation (DFG).

The publication of some content may be delayed by several years due to existing agreements with publishing houses.

3. Digital research methods

The research projects of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities are supported by a digitisation concept for optimum use of digital technology. They use digital methods and workflows wherever possible and appropriate. The IT department of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities provides the research projects with support in this area.

4. Sustainability and long-term archiving

Using technical systems operated at the Leibniz Supercomputing Centre, the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities is responsible for the long-term archiving of digital publications and research data. Older publications and research material are scanned and also digitally archived. Digital archiving complements the storage of original materials and is not meant as a replacement for this.

5. Networking and collaboration

The Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities collaborates with other scientific academies within the framework of the Union of the German Academies of Sciences and Humanities, developing overarching solutions that support cross-referencing and interoperability across electronic publications and databases.

At local level, the academy partners with other Munich-based educational and cultural institutions in the dhmuc. network (Digital Humanities Munich) to explore digitalisation in the fields of culture, education and the humanities.
