The urgency to (re)defi ne humanity is a thriving debate in both postcolonial and decolonial studies. Imaginaries from the Global South have sought to wrestle the idea of the human from colonialist ontologies with their conqueror/conquered paradigms of subjectivity that have entrenched inequalities on the faultlines of race, gender, language, religion, etc. As those whose humanity has been the subject of Cartesian doubt (Maldonado-Torres 2008) and whose existence is considered a “problem” (Dubois 1903), peripheralized voices interpolate dominant conceptions of humanity/subjectivity. This workshop off ers refl ections on minoritized cultures/ practices and how they chart alternative routes to shared humanity. How do marginal loci of enunciation enable reconceptualizations of the human? Are minority visions necessarily progressive? How is marginality (re)constructed and deconstructed? In what ways do marginal voices reconceive relative or mutual vulnerabilities as an ethos of shared humanity?
