Research Grant of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities

Positioned at the top of the research rankings, the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities (BAdW) is the largest of the eight state academies in Germany. It specializes in innovative long-term research, networks scholars across disciplines and national boundaries and engages with politics and civil society. The Academy is home to the Leibniz Supercomputing Center, one of the largest supercomputing centers in Europe, the Walther-Meissner-Institute for Low Temperature Research, the Commission for Bavarian History and the Bavarian Research Institute for Digital Transformation. Each year the Academy awards a limited number of research grants in order to support young scientists.

The BAdW encourages international postdoctoral researchers who are working on research questions related to current projects of the Academy or its institutes to apply for a research stay in Munich with a stipend of max. EUR 20,000 in total during the fellowship period (three to six months). Eligible to apply are researches who have not yet reached the age of 38 at the time of submitting the application and whose doctorate was completed no more than five years ago. Parenting and care periods may be taken into account.

Applicants should submit the following documents (max. 10 pages):

• A project statement (not exceeding five pages) that addresses the central analytic question(s) and argument(s) of the candidate’s research project as well as any preliminary work. The statement should also clearly state the specific outcomes that the project is expected to achieve and how it contributes to research projects within the BAdW.

• A detailed schedule of the proposed fellowship period including dates of anticipated residence at the BAdW. • Calculation of expected funding (max. EUR 20,000). • The candidate’s full curriculum vitae including a list of publications.

• Full contact information, including email addresses, for two academic referees who should be able, if asked, to evaluate the proposal and the candidate.

• Full contact information for the applicant including an email address.
