SUMMARY:New Perspectives. Cuneiform Artefacts from Archaeological Contexts.
DESCRIPTION:Cuneiform artefacts originating from archaeological contexts ca
n be situated within a framework that is spatially, temporally, and materia
lly defined. The findspots of cuneiform texts can offer fundamental insight
s into the builders of temples or palaces, or the scribes accountable for c
ollecting clay tablets. Spurred by the resumption of excavation activities
in Iraq and by the ongoing projects on reconstruction of ancient archives,
the archaeological contexts of cuneiform artefacts are receiving increasing
interest. The interdisciplinary dialogue between Near Eastern archaeology
and cuneiform philology will further explore how the archaeological context
of discoveries can be used when editing and processing sources, especially
  in digital format.
