The digital documentation and dissemination of cultural heritage open up new possibilities for research, public engagement, and international collaboration. At the same time, they raise important questions about how to deal with colonial collections: What role can digital technologies play in the restitution or accessibility of cultural objects? What opportunities and limitations does “digital restitution” offer for source communities, museums, and academic research? The round table “Digital Restitution of Cultural Heritage. Perspectives from the Philippines and Germany” brings together experts from Germany and the Philippines to discuss the handling of colonial collections and digital strategies of restitution from different academic and institutional perspectives. The discussion will focus on issues such as digital documentation, accessibility, collaboration with source communities, and new forms of restitution and knowledge production in the digital sphere. The event offers insights into current research and invites participants to reflect on the possibilities and challenges of digital restitution.
